Songs to Teach and Inspire

Who He Is – The Inspiration Behind the Song

The song, Who He Is, came to me in a dream.  Many of the melodies for my songs come to me in dreams, however, this time not only the melody came to me in a dream, but the lyrics and a vision of my performing it as well.  I was performing at an amphitheater, singing the song as if I’d known it for years.  Now, the lyrics needed tweaking, but in the dream I had the general idea.  God sometimes encourages and inspires us through dreams or visions.  See the biblical references below.

The song is about the Fruits of the Spirit and not only that but if you see those fruits in me or in a person then you can get to know who God is.  And, of course, how myself or a person has been transformed through Christ.

God gives you a dream – an idea, goal, or ambition. Every great accomplishment first begins as a God-given dream in someone’s mind. There are many examples in the Bible of this:

  • God gave Noah the dream of building an ark.
  • God gave Abraham the dream of being the father of a great nation.
  • God gave Joseph the dream of being a leader that would save his people.
  • God gave Nehemiah the dream of building the wall around Jerusalem.

How do you know when a dream is from God or when it’s just something you’ve thought up yourself? The Bible tells us that God “by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of — infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes” (Ephesians 3:20 LB).

Abraham was a wealthy man to whom God gave great promises. He owned cattle, silver and gold, but he had no son to inherit his wealth, for his wife was barren. The Lord appeared to Abraham in a vision and promised him an heir (Gen. 15:4).

The Lord assured Jacob that He would be with him wherever he went and that He would bring Jacob back to the land He had promised to him (v. 15).Two wives and 11 sons later, God spoke to Jacob again in a dream (Gen. 31:10-13). Jacob had been working for his father-in-law, Laban, who continually cheated him. In the dream, God revealed a plan for dividing the cattle of Laban’s flocks fairly and giving Jacob his rightful portion.
